Review - Baptized by Fire - Upon the Pyre

Texas strikes again with blasphemous and relentless Death Metal. The band Baptized by Fire represents this genre in a brutal way with merciless precision. Dark and heavy the six songs punching in your face. As you see on the cover Jesus burning on the cross in hell, you will feel his pain while listening to the tracks. Glen Benton of Deicide couldn't be more proud hearing this record.

Another brilliant release of Nice to Eat you Records together with Sevared Records. Those labels always know to deliver the sick underground stuff.

As I mentioned Deicide, this album is oldschool as fuck by the presented brutality but transport that sound also to a new modern era by mixing and recording quality. The record sounds pretty clean and thoughtful written but still dirty enough to not lose any needed atmosphere to keep it alive. The music is rotten to the bone in a good way. The songs are orientated in a higher speed area without being to playful or getting lost in technicality.

I think Baptized by Fire found their spot between a solid oldschool blasphemous Death Metal base form bands like Deicide, Immolation and Incantation. Spiced up with some swedisch ingredients from Dismember and Entombed. The topping is the brutality just Texas can deliver from bands as Uncleansed, Insidious Decrepancy and Sintury. Surely not as downtuned as them but this hybrid takes what is best for them from all worlds to create someting on their own.

I really enjoyed the full playtime of the record being torn apart from the different elements presented while not being able to sit still on my couch. The need to bang your fucking head to the rhythms os overwhelming. Baptized by Fire created an awesome and evil album which just bursts with power.

So everything is there what you need from this kind of Death Metal. Darkness, Brutality, Razorsharp riffs and blasting drums. You will get blown away and lose yourself in its barbarity.

If you worship this kind of oldschool Death Metal in the blasphemous way and are a fan of Deicide, Incantation, Immolation, Infernal Dominion, Insidious Decrepancy, Prophecy, Scattered Remains and so on. For sure you will love this record. 25 minutes and 38 seconds of pure devastation!!!

9 / 10. Nailed to the Cross!!!

Cheers Zed
